Indianapolis Parking Meters

With the exception of free spaces, parking meters offer the most affordable parking option in Indianapolis. Here's everything you need to know about them:
  • All parking meters are operational Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays are free.
  • In the downtown core area, along Massachusetts Avenue and in Broad Ripple, the rate is $1.75 per hour. Elsewhere, the rate is $1.25 per hour.
  • Following is a reminder of the free parking holidays outlined by City ordinance: New Year's Day; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Presidents Day; Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas day.
  • (NOTE: Free parking holidays are posted on the lower right section of each pay box, and meters are programmed to prevent payment and display a message that payment is not needed on these free parking holidays.)
  • Most parking meters now accept credit cards including MasterCard, Visa and American Express.
  • Many meters accept payment for a maximum of two hours, but some now allow up to four hours of parking. (In other words, use caution when you press the "max" button.)
  • Plan ahead for covered meters. Before and during major events, some metered spaces will not be available for parking. Don't risk getting towed.
  • Finally, make sure your tires are within one-foot of the curb. Parking enforcement folks have been known to pull out measuring tape!
  • You can find a map of available meters here.
